Brixton People’s Kitchen are finalists in the £50,000 Waste Reduction Challenge Prize. The challenge aims to identify new ideas that can influence and mobilise communities to make significant reductions in waste and impact behaviour for years to come.

For the last year, the Brixton People’s Kitchen has been turning food surplus from local businesses into free, healthy meals for local people. Inspired by German artists Gartenstudio, they now want to invite local people to design and build a Mobile Kitchen that will travel throughout the diverse communities in Brixton and beyond, to inspire positive action against food waste by acting as an open, convivial platform for food education, community building and skills-sharing.

Throughout the project, they will be looking for hosts and contributors, and will be posting opportunities for collaboration and volunteering on the website, and their Facebook and Twitter pages. And if you run, or know someone who runs a community project, looking to get some cooking action going this summer, please get in touch!
