Ebony Horse Club is looking to appoint three new Trustees

About Ebony Horse Club.

Ebony Horse Club Community Riding Centre is unique in many ways: its location, history and the young people it supports help EHC to stand out in terms of achievement and enterprise.

Over it’s 21 years EHC has directly and indirectly reached thousands of children and families either through membership in the club or in improving the impact a young person has had on others.

The community riding centre teaches horse riding to children and young people growing up in disadvantaged communities in and around Coldharbour, Brixton.

We have a regular membership and schools programme for approximately 400 individual local children and young people who learn to ride with us from the age of eight until they reach early adulthood.

Many of our young people experience significant challenges putting at risk their aspirations and ambitions. In response and at the heart of our project, we have developed a youth work programme to support our young people as they transition into adulthood. The programme consists of volunteering, work placements, one to one mentoring and further education, training and employment support and advice.

What the new Trustees should bring

We are particularly looking for new trustees who have skills in the following areas. We would particularly encourage those who live or work locally to apply :-

  • Safeguarding
  • Financial
  • Governance

Responsibilities of Trustees

Trustees have a number of responsibilities:-

  • To ensure that Ebony Horse Club complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • To ensure that EHC pursues its objects as defined by the governing document and that it uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: we must not spend money on activities which are not included in our own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
  • To contribute actively to the board of trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
  • To fundraise for Ebony Horse Club
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation, ensure its effective and efficient administration and financial stability and protect and manage the property of Ebony Horse Club and to ensure the proper investment of funds.

In addition to the above statutory duties, Trustees will use the specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing guidance on new initiatives or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
