Forest school events in Elam Street Open Space

As well as tomorrow’s tree house building the following forest school events will take place in Elam Street Open Space in May and June.

Planting edible plug plants

Date: Sunday 18 May 2014
Time: 12:30pm to 3:30pm

Description: Come and help plant edible plug plants in Elam St Open Space.

We shall be planting the following plant species:

Yarrow Anise Hyssop Wild Angelica Lawn Chamomile Chicory Wild Basil Wild Carrot Wild Strawberry Common Catsear Lemon Balm Evening Primrose Wild Marjoram Common Sorrel Clary Sage Salad Burnet Dandelion

Free refreshments shall be provided.

Forest School Fire Making Workshops

Date: Saturday 24 May 2014 to Saturday 07 Jun 2014
Time: 3pm to 5pm

Description: Free Fire Making Workshops “Songs & Stories by the Fire”

3pm – 5pm (approx) Saturday 24th May

3pm – 5pm (approx) Saturday 31st May

3pm – 5pm (approx) Saturday June Sat 7th This session includes special guests storyteller and drummers

Health & safety, lighting & using fire skills shall be taught on every session

Booking required for each session

Note: Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Aimed to general public, families, schools and children under 5’s We’ll use recycled materials and wood sourced from the site and/or local businesses.

Urban Plant Survey

Elam St Open Space is a tiny Site of Importance for Nature Conservation nestled near Loughborough Junction in South London. This course will teach participants several of the key plant species that occur widely in urban spaces, focusing particularly on grass identification and the use of plants as indicator species for habitat assessment.
