Thameslink is consulting on its new timetable from 2018

Work on the Thameslink upgrade should be completed by 2018 and the train operator is now consulting on its new timetable. You can access the consultation here by logging on to this link http://www.thameslinkrailway.com/your-journey/timetable-consultation.

The good news is that there will be four cross-London trains an hour on the Wimbledon loop line, the line which serves Loughborough Junction. Plans to stop some of these trains at Blackfriars seem to have been dropped.

The bad news is that all of these trains will terminate at St Albans; it will no longer be possible to get on at LJ station and off at Luton Parkway for the airport; passengers will need to change at Elephant and Castle.

Although not subject of this consultation there are no plans to increase capacity from Loughborough Junction beyond the introduction of new Overground-style trains which have increased standing room!!!! There are no plans to get non-stopping trains to stop at LJ.  Anecdotal evidence shows that many local LJ residents do not use LJ station during the rush hour because of the difficulty of boarding overcrowded trains. And with many new homes likely to be built in the area over the next five to ten years, this can only get worse.

We would be very grateful if you could email us your comments and what representations you would like LJAG to make on the timetable and the question of overcrowded trains at Loughborough Junction station.  Please email us at [email protected]. The consultation ends at 5pm on 8 December 2016.

Best wishes
