Loughborough Junction Business Forum first meeting

On Wednesday, 26 February, a group of local businesses met up as part of LJAG’s commitment to helping trade in the area.  We want to hear how we can be supportive to the businesses in our area and the key issues they need tackled.

Now known as ‘The Loughborough Junction Business Forum’, this first meeting was held at the local and newly opened Blue Turtle Oasis Café (210 Coldharbour Lane). Adrian Turle, the venue’s owner, and possibly Loughborough Junction’s newest entrepreneur hosted us with lovely refreshments sponsored by Lambeth Council.

Daniel Moore from Lambeth Council attended with Alex Webb from the South London Procurement Network to tell the group more about the benefits our local businesses can find by working together.

Following this meeting plans are underway to deliver an action plan for the next 18 months that will seek to:

  • Organise a summer meet up in the soon to be opened Cycle Café on Coldharbour Lane (the rumours are true!)
  • Survey business owners on their challenges and how we can best help
  • Encourage more businesses to put up ‘Keep Loughborough Junction Clean’ stickers (thank you to those who are already using their brooms and dust pans and have publicly supported the programme)
  • Organise a learning trip to Wood Street Market in Walthamstow
  • Produce an online business directory as part of the LJAG website (and maybe a print directory if funding is secured)
  • Organise a local market day event.

Amanda Kamin, LJAG Trustee and business liaison said, ‘It was a great turn out for our first networking event and wonderful to receive practical support and advice from the council. We’d like to see additional businesses attend our events and want to encourage them to get in touch. Most of our high street businesses were absent from our meeting, but we want to support all the trade in our area and hope they come out next time. We will not just be giving lip service, we want to make a positive impact to local spending and job creation.’
