Philip Seymour Hoffman films to be screened at Whirled Cinema

This spring Whirled Cinema will bring you: WHIRLED SEASONS

Each Whirled Season draws focus on a fresh point of interest. We will explore and research our chosen subject to bring you an exciting series of films ranging from old favourites by some of the masters of cinema, to a little something you never knew existed. There will be something in there for everyone.

Whirled Seasons kicks off on Monday 28 April with a Hoffman Season: A celebration of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s early career between the years of 1991 to 2000.

Opening the first month of films will be Hoffman’s 1991 feature debut: ‘Triple Bogey On A Par Five Hole’, an independent black and white criminal comedy directed by Amos Poe. The film combines the cinematic styles of 40’s film noir with the gangster crime drama of early 90’s movies, which follows a mock-documentary maker studying a family of children living on a boat moored at a New York harbour, whose parents have been murdered on a golf course.

Triple Bogey On A Par Five Hole (1991), 28 April
This will be the first of five films covering the early work of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It is the first feature he worked on, an American Indie criminal comedy from 1991. Directed by Amos Poe.

Boogie Nights (1997), 5 May
This is the second of five films covering the early work of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman’s character; A young gay member of a film crew involved in the pornography industry in the late 70’s.

The Talented Mr Ripley (1999), 12 May
The third of five films covering the early work of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman plays Freddie Miles, a close friend of Dickie and Marge, who grows ever suspicious of Mr Ripley’s involvement and intentions in the group.

Happiness (1998), 19 May
The fourth of five films covering the early work of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman plays one of his most challenging and controversial roles as a lonely and desperate man, with very strange sexual desires.

Flawless (1999), 26 May 
The last of five films covering the early career of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman plays another interesting and extreme character, In this film he is a drag queen offering advice to his neighbour, a frustrated police officer (Rober DeNiro).

For all screenings doors open at 7pm, film starts 8.30pm
