Rethinking our Local Economy workshop

Transition Town Brixton and Reconomy are to hold a Rethinking our Local Economy workshop for Lambeth change-makers on Wednesday 13 March, from 1.30 for 2pm until 5pm, at room 115, Lambeth Town Hall.

Transition Town Brixton is conducting a funded Economic Evaluation to estimate the value of a ‘future appropriate’ Transition Economy in Lambeth and the real benefits it would bring to local people in terms of more jobs, more resilience, more community, more real economic activity. Awareness of the potential ‘size of the prize’ of keeping value local will then help shape the local economic strategy and other decision making.

We will produce two reports on Food and Energy (including retrofitting energy efficiency measures and renewables) and a three year strategic plan with key local buy-in to make it happen. This is part of a national programme run by the Transition Network’s REconomy Project. A summary/press release is attached. See also the TTB Economic Evaluation webpage for ongoing updates and resources.

The workshop will include:

  • introduction by Derrick Anderson, Lambeth Chief Executive
  • workshop to look at value flows within the borough (and how much of it escapes)
  • three examples of local businesses that are plugging the leaks and keeping value local
  • visioning initiatives that will plug the leaks and build Lambeth’s ‘circular economy’
  • agree brief for TTB’s evaluation study and reports
  • agree ‘statement of purpose’ for our local economy
  • ways forward.
