Tesco lorry problems to be tackled by Council

Here at LJAG we have been campaigning since February for something to be done about the dangerous traffic situation caused by Tesco delivery lorries parking outside the new store on Coldharbour Lane.

It now looks like action will be taken by Lambeth Council. The statement below comes direct from the Council’s transport planning team.

“Officers have met with Tesco to discuss the issues arising from the servicing of this store. Tesco have been told in the strongest terms that the current delivery regime is not acceptable and that urgent amendments from them are required to resolve the issues being caused as a result.

Officers are in the process of implementing more stringent loading restrictions on the section of road outside the store which will prevent deliveries from taking place on Monday to Friday from 7 – 10am and 4 – 7pm. These are due to be in force at the end of August once the statutory consultation procedures have been completed. In the meantime Tesco have agreed to restrict their deliveries to between 10am – 3pm. Officers are monitoring the situation and would be interested to hear if any breaches are witnessed by others.

Further to this Tesco are in the process of drafting a comprehensive delivery management plan for this store for approval by the council in order to comply with an outstanding planning condition. This will cover all aspects of how deliveries are made to the store from the times and duration of deliveries to the type of vehicles used and the position that vehicle will stop in.

The use of Belinda Road for loading is being considered but there are concerns over the potential for HGVs having to reverse out on to Coldharbour Lane due to not being able turn around within Belinda Road. Powerday vehicles are able to manoeuvre within their off-street yards whereas Tesco vehicles would need to turn completely within the limits of the carriageway.”

Please email us at [email protected] if you would like to report any breaches as mentioned above and include a photo if you can. We’ll pass it on to the Council for you.
