The Cambria bridge mural is being painted now

If you’ve walked under Cambria bridge recently you’ll have seen that not only has the steelwork gone up to provide a framework for the artworks but ATM has started painting a fantastic mural on the underside of the bridge. The mural is an abstract representation of ‘The Cambrian Explosion’ using the ideas of energy and beginnings to represent the ideas of ‘punctuated evolution’, which it is believed is what the Cambrian era represented.

The Cambrian Explosion was an era approximately 480 million years ago when the fossil record shows a massive acceleration in the complexity of life on earth. It apparently happened so quickly that it made Charles Darwin question his theory of evolution. His theory allows for slow gradual change over many millions of years but the Cambrian fossils show massive evolutionary changes over just tens of millions of years. The bridge represents Loughborough Junction’s own Cambrian Explosion. The overall idea is to create a collection of fossils or a Victorian cabinet of curiosities.
