The Thameslink service to central London from Loughborough Junction station has been safeguarded, the government announced this week. All passengers travelling north from Loughborough Junction would have had to change trains at Blackfriars from 2018 under Network Rail proposals, which the Department for Transport has now decided to scrap. Our volunteers collected around 1500 signatures in August and September last year on platforms, in carriages and outside the station and many of us (including LJAG) wrote impassioned letters of protest. This work contributed greatly to the decision not to go ahead with the plans. We thank everyone who got involved.

LJAG Co-Chair Anthea Masey said: “We are thrilled that the Department for Transport has changed its mind about stopping the trains on the Sutton Wimbledon loop at Blackfriars. This train is vital to the people of Loughborough Junction. It is our equivalent of the tube and stopping the trains at Blackfriars would have been a disaster.”
